Ok friends I’m getting real about facial injections today. It’s a topic I have been seriously thinking about for a couple of years, but have been pretty intimidated on where to start and what to expect. So I thought I would break down my first experience with you all because after doing it….it’s SERIOUSLY NO BIG DEAL, no shame here in admitting I’m now completely obsessed and have fallen in love!
I recently had the opportunity to visit Blackhawk Plastic Surgery and to discuss a couple of my insecurities, i.e. my forehead/11’s (that spot between your brows that wrinkles up when you’re mad, or in my case incredibly annoyed, which happens far more than I’d like to admit) and my lower lip. I’ve always been a little insecure about my lip, I had surgery when I was 5 to correct a birth defect, hemangioma, that turned my lip outward.
Let’s start with answering a few questions I had leading up to the process and my thoughts after my visit.
- Where to start and how to find someone:
Honestly, I did what everyone probably does and started with Google and narrowed it to a couple of places. I say definitely go with a place you feel like has reviews that are authentic, and better yet, know people that have gone there. - What should I expect during the consultation, do I have to get it right then and there?
Ok, so this was the biggest thing that held me back from trying this sooner. I was afraid of being judged and unsure of the expectations and in my head made it all a much bigger deal than it actually was. There was NO judgment, my insecurities were just that, MINE, and were totally valid and accepted. I didn’t have to get anything during this visit, but honestly, I wanted to because I was already there, discussed it, and all said and done….I was in and out in less than 40 minutes…SO fast and instantly I felt more confident. - Is it going hurt, is there any down time, will it seem obvious?
I have to admit, shots don’t really bother me, but the thought of them in my face…totally freaked me out. But you guys, this DID NOT HURT… AT… ALL… I feel like the only way to explain this (this might sound weird, but it’s soo true) would be to tell you take a tip of a safety pin and tap it on your forehead once quickly and remove it. THAT’S IT…Didn’t really hurt, did it? And if you think it did, it what, only lasted 0.005 seconds, right? Definitely not enough to keep you from ever doing it!So for the lips, I would say it had a slightly increased amount of pain, but hardly. I did have one spot in the middle of my lower lip that was a little painful….but keep in mind I have scar tissue there which increases sensitivity. All other areas were like a small pinch (head to BPS IG page to watch a video of me getting it done). No, there was no down time. I actually did THESE photos immediately after getting both areas of injections. With that said, my lips were swollen and tender for the first couple of days, but didn’t interfere with my day-to-day activities. - I’m only in my 30s, is this something I need to start now?
The answer is YES. It is a preventative measure you just can’t match with any skin care regimen you use. We all know I am a big fan of Rodan + Fields (here here here), but it just can’t fix those wrinkles and certainly can’t plump up these lips. The key here is Dyport or Botox doesn’t allow movement of the area, which mean those lines aren’t being created and ends with preventing deep obnoxious wrinkles (so I no longer have that resting “I’m so annoyed with you” face)
Sooo, needless to say I will be continuing because I LOVED the results. I love how easy, painless and fast it was and that it seriously had instant results. Here is what I received:
- Dysport for my forehead and between my brows. This stuff is amazing. I love that it froze these areas I wanted it to and doesn’t completely restrict all movement (you know when you see that person who can’t move a muscle in their face, i.e. Lala from Vanderpump Rules, yep don’t look like that).
- Restylane Silk for my lips. It’s the first and only FDA-approved product specifically designed for lip enhancement and the smoothing of wrinkles around the mouth.
This brings me to my visit with Dr. Ronan at Blackhawk Plastic Surgery, here’s what I love:
- VIP Beauty Membership program. They make this stuff affordable my friends! Basically you pay a monthly fee, just like you do for your gym membership, and this goes toward your procedures/treatments so you never have to pay one large sum and make a huge dent in your account. Plus it gives you preferred booking times, member specials, free gifts and invites to VIP parties. They start for as little as $50 a month
- Dr. Ronan was so awesome and so professional. Being a nurse I have talked with A LOT of physicians and they aren’t always easy to approach and voice your concerns. This definitely was NOT the case here. He listened and explained everything and I totally felt so comfortable. I also loved that knowing it was my first time and concerned how it would turn out he was conservative in the amount of filler he put in my lips.
To be completely honest this was such an amazing place and I am so glad I chose Blackhawk Plastic Surgery. This place is beautiful, the staff was so friendly and I am so in love with my results…AND I will be continuing this as part of my beauty maintenance plan!
I’d love to hear your thoughts on facial injections… Would you get them? Have you gotten them? Are you thinking about any other kind of procedure?
If you’ve ever thought or thinking about doing this and have questions, PLEASE ask me either by email or leaving a comment. I will give you honest feedback based on my own experience.
Also — If you’re in The Bay Area and have questions about Blackhawk Plastic Surgery specifically, let me know!
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a fantastic week!
