Well, let’s be honest here…I love to go grocery shopping. The grocery store is one place I love to just stroll up and down the isles seeing what I can find. It also helps me get inspiration for meal ideas. But, in reality it just takes up too much time. When we first moved back to Kansas City, my mom and sister were dying at how many times a week I stopped by the store.
It’s almost embarrassing to admit it, but it was almost every day, HA! Can anyone else identify with this? I mean it was milk one day, snacks for the girls another, or oh shoot now we’re out of bread. Literally I went ALL THE TIME.
How To Save Time
About a month ago I started creating a weekly meal plan to follow for dinners. Now this isn’t at all ground breaking, but I cannot even tell you how much time it has saved me.
Mostly because it solved the problem of standing in front of the refrigerator looking and deciding what to make. I mean once I had it figured out, 45 minutes had passed.
Think about it, that’s a lot of time wasted…a little over 5 hours wasted to be exact. You could get a lot done in that amount of time every week.
Besides time, it’s also helped me be more creative with what we’re having for dinner during the week. You know, mix it up so we’re not eating the same things all the time. Which is always nice.
I use a dry erase board and update it every Sunday for my meal planning, and write my list on our boogie board. I then will go to the store on Sunday while the girls are napping or Monday after I drop them off at school.
It’s great having it written out because J knows exactly what to fix if I’m not home, or running late. Plus, I have found writing it down helps me stick to it. There’s now forgetting what I had planned, plus it’s the perfect time to start making my grocery list of things I need to get through the week.
Meal Planning Guide
To help makes things easy, I have created a cute weekly meal planner. You can print this off, place it in an 8×10 frame and grab a couple of dry erase markers. This way, you can change it out every week.
I’m all about figuring out ways to save time and create a better system for ourselves. From wring and re-working my closet, to short cuts for cooking and just taking a few extra minutes once a week to plan out our dinners. Now if you want to go all out and plan several meals, or even prep…then you go girl!! I haven’t quite gotten up to that level yet!
Tell me one way you save yourself time throughout the week. Anything from meal planning, laying out outfits for everyone or whatever works for you. I’d love to hear about it so I can continue to learn to simplify my daily/weekly routine!
Know someone that could benefit from meal planning and prepping, send this post to them! Or download my printable and create it for them, grab some markers and a grocery store gift card….makes the perfect gift for a new Mom, or busy Mom’s birthday!
Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you have a great week!
