Most people have a lot of stresses in their lives. From debt to working long hours at work, maybe working a side hustle and maybe all while keeping up with your family and their lives. This leads to tired eyes and premature, or working wrinkles. More and more people are turning to filters and editing techniques to create a better appearance, but honestly it starts with a few simple things to get your skin on track. Here is a list of 6 things you can start today to maintain youthful skin, a healthy glow, or to help get some of that back.
6 Skincare Steps To Maintain Youthful Skin
1. Use sunblock every day.
The absolute best thing you can do for your skin, especially your face, is using no less than SPF 30 on your face. You should also take the time to apply your sunscreen to your neck and chest to slow aging wrinkles and discoloration in these areas. Although you may have some sun damage already, it’s never too late to start using sunscreen everyday to start preserving your skin.
2. Get your Vitamin C.
Vitamin C helps boost collagen, reduce pores and brighten the skin. All are things we start complaining about as we get older. Finding a good Vitamin C serum is great, but be sure to use a medical grade product to ensure it’s a higher concentrate to do what it’s suppose to do. Other ways to increase your Vitamin C is with foods such as cantaloupe, mango, pineapples, oranges, grapefruits, and berries are all packed with this antioxidant which when eaten regularly does wonders to sustain a youthful glow.
3. Ditch the fast food and eat more fish.
Start offsetting your weekend indulgences of pizza and burgers by eating healthier during week. The oils in fish have fatty acids. These can help prevents inflammation that can makes wrinkles more noticeable and deeper over time. If fish and seafood is something you don’t like, you can get Omega-3’s from supplements. However, it’s not quite like getting it via eating the fish.
4. Quit smoking.
Nothing ages you quicker than smoking. If you’re currently smoker and you quit, you can start looking 5-8 years younger in about three months. Your body will start getting rid of the toxins, and your skin won’t be as dry from the constant smoke being blown around it. Another bonus from quitting, your food will taste 10x’s better!
5. Decrease your sugar intake.
Being mindful of your sugar and carbs because they are beauty kills! They cause inflammation, which can lead to deeper wrinkles over time. Any inflammation in the body will show up on the face in the form of adult acne, sagging, wrinkling and dull, dry skin.
6. Maintain your glow with facials and peels.
If you are able to start younger, like mid-20’s, by getting small amounts of Botox/Xeomin then you can start preventing deep wrinkles. “Baby Botox”, is a little more affordable to maintain if you start early, rather than trying to play catch up later in life. I will say starting this is a slippery slope because it can be a gateway for filler injections, which if not not properly can age you. Other ways to keep your skin healthy is ensuring your keeping it exfoliated and hydrated. Start incorporating a skincare routine now, which should include regular peels or lasers depending on your skin needs.
Lasers and peels are an excellent solution for sun damage, skin texture, pores, acne scarring and cell turnover to stimulate collagen growth. These may be expensive, but some places offer memberships to keep these affordable for you to up keep and maintain.
It’s important to start making it a solid habit of taking care of yourself and your skin. If you’re reading this and you’re in your 20s, even 30s, then start a routine today. Even if it’s as simple as sunscreen every morning, then finding a good cleanser, toner and moisturizer system for evening.
