Summer is in full swing. Meaning lake trips, weekend getaways and long Summer Vacations. But, along with all of the fun of trips and vacation can come the stress of packing. Me, I’m totally an over packer. I think I need everything with me because I need options. Then I end up not wearing half of the stuff I packed, I don’t have space to bring new things home and my suitcase is over weight.
Sound Familiar? Yep we all do it at some point or another. It wasn’t until last year when I went on a super long road trip where I planned a different outfit for every day, even 2 outfits for some, and my packing was getting out of control.
So I stepped back, re-evaluated what I was looking bring and thought t myself “Why don’t I bing less, but more that can mix and match with each other?”
I know what you’re thinking, and yes I know this is not a new concept. But really, it’s so true. I am normally about finding the most ways to wear something, why don’t I have the same thoughts for Vacation. Insert the Summer Vacation Capsule Wardrobe.
So basically I’m saying, go ahead and plan to re-wear things on your trip. But mixing them up can increase your overall suitcase by doubling your outfit choices!
Per the video, you’ll see only about 10 different outfits, but there are several more ways to mix and match the pieces if you need more outfits than this.

The key is either sicking with neutrals, or things that have lots of color that work with each other. I personally love color and prints so you’ll see lots of different colors, prints and textures.
- Take your tees and tanks and tie them over a dress or jumpsuit. This way you can wear the dress or jumpsuit, make it look different with just a quick edit.
- Mix and match your shorts with your swimsuit for pool days, then pair them with other tops for any non-pool activities. Shorts are the perfect piece to dress up or down, depending on the shoe you brought with you. A great sandal or wedge will you through almost any outfit ideas.
- Pack a pair of jeans, joggers and/or leggings with you. Any top you bring from a basic to graphic tee you’ll be set to wear them all at some point or another thought your trip. Besides a denim short, these are the most versatile pieces you will bring.
So whether you’re going on a long trip, or even a weekend getaway. Think about the pieces you bring with you. You can save lots of time and money when packing this way. It keeps you from overpacking, as well as keeping your Summer Vacation Capsule collection simple.
Head into your closet, see what you have to mix and match, if there’s something you’re missing at that pint…then it may be a good idea to grab a piece you need.
