Last weekend James and I had the privilege to drive up to Excelsior Springs for a little staycation at The Elms Hotel & Spa for our 7th wedding anniversary. This historic hotel is a great place to stay if you’re looking for a little weekend getaway. We had everything we needed from coffee, great food and perfect spot to relax away from the kids!
The Hotel
The resort itself has the warmest feel to it. A little old town feel mixed with modern touches. The hotel provides a place of tranquility that allows you to escape the hustle and bustle of life and truly unwind and relax.
We loved our hotel room. We were luckily enough to stay in one of the suites, which had a nice sitting area in one room, and then an elegantly restored bedroom and bathroom. in the other. As a bonus of staying on the 5th floor, there is a hosted welcoming happy hour every evening with beer, wine, soda and snacks!
Also, just want to highlight that James and I slept like babies all night, plus we both got more hours of sleep than we’ve had in a long time. It could have been because the girls weren’t coming in around 7 – but I’m thinking it was the comfy beds!
For you history buffs, they offer the Harry S. Truman suite, which is where he stayed on election night in 1948. Then woke up the next morning as the newly elected 33rd President of the United States.
Dining
The Elms has a yummy restaurant called 88 At The Elms. With rustic American Midwest fare prepared using fresh ingredients sourced from local farms, vegetables and herbs from its own onsite gardens. We ate both lunch and dinner and we loved our meals. Lunch was pretty casual with sandwiches, fries and onion rings and a fun spring cocktail. Dinner was amazing, in fact James said it was one of the best ribeye steaks he may have ever had!
Serving up coffee from Kansas City’s The Roasterie and freshly baked pastries. Yum, right!? I went down early Monday morning for latte’s and to try and grab their famous cinnamon roll, but I was too late. so, I grabbed the Nutella croissant and the pecan sticky bun for a little breakfast in bed!
The Pool
We lucked out with a break in the storms we have been getting and had a beautiful 80 degree, sunny day! They had music playing, James and I grabbed a drink and relaxed poolside. We haven’t done that since maybe our honeymoon! The pool area was beautiful and definitely the place to be!
The Spa
The hotel has an on-sight spa that is so dreamy! We loved spending time in The Grotto, which is modern take on a traditional Roman bath. It features a collection of soothing chambers in which to relax and rejuvenate in.
The relaxation room was also nice to unwind right before our couples massage. In fact, I was in the midst of falling asleep when it was time to go back for the massages, which we both found to be awesome!
Overall Experience
Overall, James and I had a fabulous time! We loved how easy it was to stay at this hotel. We never had to go off sight for anything that we needed. From coffee runs to food, entertainment and comfort, The Elms Hotel provided us a great, relaxing experience!
Although just a little North of Kansas City, if you’re looking for a great place to get away for the weekend I would definitely recommend The Elms Hotel & Spa. You’ll have a fun and relaxing stay!
Thank you to The Elms Hotel and Spa for hosting our stay!
