Winter is often a time where you’re stuck inside and activities are limited. I know I often lack the energy or motivation to want to get out and about, but there are times you just have to force yourself to do something. Especially as Mama’s, it’s important to encourage your kids to stay active, stay creative and have a little fun during the Winter months. So as we head into Winter Break this week here are some of our Top 10 Winter Activities For The Family.
Top 10 Winter Activities For The Family
See Holiday Lights and Displays – We do this EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR. There is so magic in the air during the holiday season and to me a lot of it has to do with all of the holiday lights. We go to Christmas In The Park every year, Here is a great list to check out if you’re in Kansas City
- Country Club Plaza
- Union Station
- Crown Center
Have a PJ Day – There’s nothing like staying in your PJ’s ALL DAY LONG! The girls and I love to do this. We wake up, enjoy breakfast, play and watch movies/TV shows. Before we know it it’ll be lunch, then off to nap they go. So we stay cozy and have a comfy day. Here are a few cute jammies for you and your littles!
Make Homemade Hot Chocolate – Is there anything better? I think not. I can remember being little on a snowy day my mom would make a batch and it was SO SO good after being outside in the snow.
Play Board Games – Pull out your favorites and play the day away. Ok, well maybe not, but be sure to stock up on a few so on those snow days, or days it’s crazy cold you can have some fun while stuck indoors. Below are a few of our FAVES!
Go Ice Skating – Such a classic Winter activity. We go every year on Aria’s birthday. The best thing is that kids
Decorate Sugar Cookies – I mean who doesn’t love this! This is such a fun activity, plus you get to enjoy them once your done. The girls and I do this every year. This year we’re planning to make a few extras so we can take them to and meet our new neighbors! Also, be sure to save a few for Santa.
Family Movie Marathon – each member of the family picks their favorite movie, then have a day long (maybe half day depending on your family size and length of movie) marathon. Be sure to include snacks, like popcorn, a cheese tray. And if you can have a fire include a S’more station!
Make Homemade Snow globes – The kids will love this. Grab a couple of empty jars, it can be empty sauce, baby food or mason jar. Put in some glitter, jewels or beads, then add water. Shake it up and the kids will be in awe!
Have An Indoor Picnic – This is so much fun. We do this every now and then and the girls just think it is so fun to eat in living room. I always do something easy like pizza so it’s a little less messy.
Have An In-Home Spa Day – Setup stations around the house for each spa activity. We like to do facials, meaning put on our favorite mask (and yes Mama’s you can do this with your boys, my nephew loves it!) then head to the nails station. We typically start with my fave, Pretty Feet and Hands, then paint our nails. If you have boy, just soak and trim them. Then on to hair and makeup, It’s so much fun, plus it’s never to early to teach about self-care…Right?!?
Do you often get down and get the blues during the Winter months? I definitely do, so these are a just few way I try to combat this. Honestly, I often get a little depressed during these months (one of the many reasons I loved living in California – I didn’t have this Seasonal Affect Disorder) I am always looking for more activity ideas for me and the girls.
It would mean so much to me if you would comment your One Winter Must Activity to add to this list.
Thank you so much for stopping by, hope you have a fantastic week!
Can’t go wrong with any of these, especially skating! Lovely ideas dear!
