This weekend was crazy with the snow. With in a day we got about 8-10 inches of snow. Now, I know that’s not insane, but it’s our first snow day since moving from California so it’s definitely a shock. Anyway it got me thinking about all the snow day activities we would do as a kid, plus a few others. So, here is a list of the best snow day activities that can be done inside and out.
Snow Day Activities
Outside
The best part about snow days is actually getting outside and playing in the snow. Here’s some of the best outdoor activities. Even though there’s a couple of obvious activities on the list, there might be a few you’ve never done before either!
Build a snowman – this is a classic and an obvious activity, so it’s worth the mention. To mix it up try painting the details on.
Make a snow volcano – I found this on Pinterest and looks so cool. I am trying it out this week with the girls. Be sure you’re following me on Instagram to see it go down in my IG Stories.
Paint Snow – my kids love anything to so with painting so this is just another fun way to get them outside and active.
Sledding – another obvious activity, but oh so fun!
Build a snow cave – we were driving in our neighborhood yesterday and saw the coolest igloo/snow cave and totally want to build one of these..like ASAP
Inside
Now that you have been outside all morning doing all kinds of fun activities it’s time to warm up inside with some fun and yummy activities.
Homemade Hot Chocolate – my mom did this for us a lot and it was the best way to warm up.
Dance Party – push the furniture back, turn the music up loud and start dancing. The girls love when I do this. We always have the best time being silly around the living room.
Make Snow Ice Cream – I had never even heard of this until searching around on Pinterest for activities to entertain my kids. What better way than to make a yummy treat!
Stair Racing – we have stairs in our house, so if you are stuck inside all day get out some energy by creating races going up and down, or time your kid(s) to see if they can keep beating their time.
Bake Cookies – whether you have pre-made cookie dough or want to make them from scratch, be sure to get your kids into the kitchen with you. Here’s a whole post on importance of cooking with your kids
Winter Crafts – kids love to do crafts. There are so many fun Winter themed crafts you can do. I’ll also be sharing these on my Instagram stories this week, so don’t forget to hop on over there and hit that follow button.
- Hand print snowflakes
- construction paper cocoa cups
- Hand print penguins
These Winter months are often long, especially when trying to entertain kids. I hope this list is helpful when trying come up with some fun indoor and outdoor activities.
