Several years ago, Kylie Jenner kicked off this huge trend for one cosmetic procedure, lip injections. There has been a huge increase in the amount of girls trying to achieve the same look. These days, having a perfect full pout seems like a must. I’ll be honest, I have had my lips done several times and definitely want to keep them up. But, as a Nurse Injector, there are complications that can occur. I’m here to talk about what to do when lip injections go wrong.
What if you’re one of the millions of people that have also chosen to get your own lips done. You saved up, asked around for recommendations, or even found someone that was more affordable than others. You went to your appointment, and within the hour your pout was bigger, poutier and you were so excited to take that first selfie.
But, what if something went wrong? What if once the swelling goes down, you look in the mirror and realized it was botch? For whatever the reason, an inexperienced injector, migration or another kind of accident you wonder if it can be fixed.
As an experienced injector this kind of thing is rare, but problems with lip injections do happen. Especially now that there are do it yourself videos on YouTube. Which is a huge problem these days, but know that you have options. It’s important to talk to an experienced provider about your options.
When Lip Injections Go Wrong
Currently, there are three relatively common ways that people deal with botched lip injections. The most common methods people use depends on the complication you’re dealing with.
Waiting It Out
Remember, most lip injections are temporary, as most dermal fillers only last about a year. It is a procedure you have to maintain to keep up your look. If the issue is something small, like a small bump or slight unevenness you may just decide to wait it out. But, since there are ways to fix these that are both pretty easy. This way you don’t have to live with the botched look.
Evening It Out
If you’re dealing with lips that are uneven, you can simply choose to even them out. Often time, as an injector, I save a very small amount for this particular reason. When injecting the lips, swelling happens every quickly and sometimes more on one side than the other. Having a small amount saved for that two week follow-up could do wonders. But if your injector doesn’t do this, or you want to see a new injector, this may be the more affordable route to take.
That being said, there’s only so many ways this can work out. This technique works best for cases where the injections are subtle and where there were no physical reactions involving the enhancements.
A Redo
If your lip injections were done with a Hyaluronic Acid base product, you can always have them redone. This type of dermal filler can be dissolved by injecting a dissolving solution. Once the original filler has been dissolved, you can have them done by a qualified, or more experienced injector for better results.
Facing complications doesn’t have to be scary. There are several options to help you fix the issue. Don’t be afraid to to reach out to a provider to chat through these options with you and figure out which will be the best solution for you.
